President Obama and his family touched down Saturday in Brazil as part of a five-day South American trip intended to focus on jobs. Brazilian cartoonist Carlos Latuff, like most international cartoonists, thinks Obama is more interested in oil than anything else. Greedy, oil-thirsty, domineering American presidents are an enduring, international theme. Sometimes it is good to be reminded of the one-dimensional way the world sees us.

The caption at the top of the cartoon translates to: “Obama reaches Rio…”
Obama (dressed as a conquistador) is asking the Brazilian beach-goer, “Where is the pre-salt?” (The pre-salt layer, according to Wikipedia, is an oil-rich geological formation on the continental shelves off the coast of Africa and Brazil.)
Here are some more cartoons by Latuff about Obama’s trip to Brazil:

... p'haps it's because of the one-dimensional way 'you' behave
- 'you' being Corporate/Military America... not the hundreds of millions of quite normal decent people, but the monoptic greedy cowardice that has sat as the ever-present zeitgeist of the White House (and the Congress and the Senate) for more than 100 years...
... Imperial America, with its greater budget and greater bullying capacity, continually aping its 'Betters' - England's of reactionary self-loathing: the Home Office and the Foreign Office...
... which should read:
"England's Acme of reactionary self-loathing..."
brilhantes muito! (very brilliant!)
Latuff is a pretty one-dimensional cartoonist, sort of a one-trick pony that recycles the tired and old ideals of a cobweb-infested Brazilian left wing that still believes Albania was the perfect communist society and toasts Stalin whenever doing a shot of vodka. If you check out his other cartoons it will become obvious to you that he is not only rabidly anti-Israel, but also pro-Hamas, pro-Hizbollah, etc, which is terribly ironic considering he is of Maronite Lebanese descent. His cartoons are vapid and not representative of how the population feels, for every 'protester' at Obama's visit, there were thousands of Brazilians cheering him on. And Brazil needs foreign investment for this new round of oil exploration (pre-salt) otherwise this oil will remain dormant under the seabed forever.
