Toon-Off: Occupy Wall Street

Demonstrators have collected in New York to protest economic inequality and corporate greed in a movement known as Occupy Wall Street. It's clear that the protests are catching fire, but we'll see if they enact the sort-of changes here that the Tahrir Square protests in Egypt were able to accomplish.

So who drew the best Occupy Wall Street cartoon? John Darkow of the Columbia Daily Tribune or Cam Cardow of the Ottawa Sun?

Class warfare is never common sense, wisdom is good sense, which many people don't seem to have nowadays.

I agree, many people haven't had common sense for the past several years. People are finally getting some common sense. It's about time too!!!

Please share your wisdom and common sense, since our wanting everyone to pay their fair share is lacking your version of common sense and wisdom. Please tell us oracle of wisdom and common sense.

John- Does 1% of America paying 40% of the total tax liability sound like a fair share? Or how about 50% of America paying no taxes at all...lets see that common sense...

Mark - 1% of America controls 40% of the wealth....

So, if 1% of America controls 40% of the wealth and pays 40% of the taxes, it would seem the wealthy might actually be paying their "fair share". No?

The "let them eat cake" century has begun.  It is up to "the people" to end this stupidity now - unless you are looking forward to living in a cardboard box.  Seems that we are headed for a return to the Victorian Age....so brush up on your Charles Dickens' novels - it is going to be a bumpy ride.

It's rare to see the masks come off the predator and scavengerclasses, but John Aravosis at Americablog has found a doozy of anexample, in a clip of a London trader salivating at the thought ofmoney to be made as people's economic lives crumble around them:

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=aC19fEqR5bA

BBC: Can you pin down exactly what would keep investors happy, makethem feel more confident?

TRADER: That's a tough one. Personally, it doesn't matter. I'm atrader. I don't care about that stuff... We don't really care howthey're gonna fix the economy, how they're gonna fix the situation. Our job is to make money from it. And personally, I've been dreamingof this moment for three years. I have a confession, which is, I goto bed every night, I dream of another recession, I dream of anothermoment like this.

          BBC: Why?

TRADER: Because, people don't seem to maybe remember, the 30sDepression, the Depression in the 30s, wasn't just about a marketcrash. There were some people who were prepared to make money fromthat crash. And I think anybody can do that. It isn't just for somepeople in the elite. Anybody can make money, it's an opportunity.

BBC: If you could see the people around me, jaws have collectivelydropped at what you just said.

Jaws may have been dropping in the BBC studios, but make no mistake, this is a not a rare sentiment. And it's telling that this tradertrusts enough in the acceptance of the current climate of predationthat he can safely express glee at economic destruction of millions oflives.

This is bare bones class war. And with no regulation of financialmarkets, with no investigation or accountability, it will continueuntil the bones of the working and middle classes are picked clean.

Welcome to the world of no-shame class war profiteering.

Fantastic posts Kathy! Although it's my first time seeing this, I'm not particularly surprised for some reason. Naturally, we're all just a bunch of selfish apes on a tumbling rock called earth. Left to our means, we'd watch fellow apes die as long it doesn't affect our economic circumstances. Regulations, regulations, regulations. That's the only way to curb this nasty greed appetite. How does one go about doing this though? It's incredibly difficult!

3 years is to put him in the box just before the 2008 elections. It was at the time that the economy knowingly started to collapse around the Bush administration. The economy actually started collapsing before that with the price of oil killing it.

If Fox News thinks we are in Boom Times, they are nuts. We are in bad times!

If they think President Obama was the cause of this mess, they are also nuts.

I only wish President Obama and the Democrats had the same Killer Instinct that Republicans have when they are in Power and start sending White Collars to Prison.

Blue Collars in America are locked into a race to the Bottom that is not of their own choosing and Republicans continue to sit on their hands like spoiled rotten children who won't lift a finger to do anything to right this mess...

There is no doubt that American Jobs have steadily been shipped overseas to Mexico, China, and India and we voted in the People who did this to us?.

So, the solution to this problem is to put people in charge who will bring jobs back to America's shores and employ American workers. This is what needs to be done. Import jobs back into America's cities and put Americans back to work. Make the words "Made in America" mean something again. This is what we need to do, the only question is how do we do this and who do we get to do our bidding. After all, it's WE THE PEOPLE, not we the politicians. How do we get those bunch of bozos down in D.C. to do our bidding. Which actually is the WILL OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!!! This is what we need to figure out as Americans. Then go out and get it done.

Well workhorse, the way I see it is the brainchildren of this disaster we are in is the handy-work of Bush Sr. who brought us NAFTA, then idiot Clinton signed it. And the fabulous deregulation of the banking system created by none other than Gramm Leach and Bliley (3 Republican Senators). Another whopper that Clinton signed in the name of compromising with con's. My biggest issue is having a dem cow towing to a con and screwing us all in the process. Oh and not to mention Bush Jr. riding off the Gramm Leach thing with his whole "ownership society" expediting the destruction of this mess, oh, and not to mention the two wars that were NEVER on the budget! So when I vote unfortunately it is for the lesser of the two evils and then we need to ride those jerks in the direction of the 99% not the 1% who no matter how intensely you brown-nose them, they will never bring jobs back to America. Unless of course you are willing to work for 2 bucks a day.

                    FIVE things come to mind:

                    1. None of the kids in that crowd could build a guillotine if they had to. They have no knowledge of tools.

                    2. It isn't the corporations.

                    3. It IS THE CENTRIST DEMO-PUBLICANS AND REPUBLIC-RATS and the Fearless NON-LEADERS AT THE TOP.

None of this could have happened without the party of ONE signing-off on every single thing.

The Democrats brought you the Political Correct Disease that included a global economy where-in we, help other countries by sending them our jobs. How incredibly stupid and criminal is that! That's right, the Democrats brought that to the table and got it passed.

Clinton deregulated the banks and allowed the mortgage companies to come into existence. He would only do it if the mortgage companies agreed to take a bunch of D credit loans. D credit ='s: I don't have a way to pay this back and my credit proves it, but give me $200,000. Thanks.

Then the unregulated, thanks to the Demo-publicans, banks and mortgage companies had a bunch of useless paper and no one who would touch it, so they sold it too each-other. Due to no oversight in the banking industry, thanks to the Demo-publicans and their centrist buddies the Republic-rats, there was no accountability.

Everyone in the Real Estate business and most of the people with a lick of sense knew that the Real Estate boom was a house of cards when it started. No one wanted to hear it. Everyone was too busy flipping houses or buying houses that they could not pay for; they preferred to listen to that Super Economist, Greenspan, who could not understand how there could have been a housing bubble. HE CREATED IT!

                    4. This is a convenient distraction from Holder and buddy Obama's little problem of providing the guns to the Mexicans so they could kill their own and some of ours. Why did they do that? Because they want more gun control and a reason to sign the UN Small Arms Treaty; the treaty that takes your right to self defense AWAY FROM YOU FOREVER!

The two racists, Holder and Obama, must be peeing their pants with glee to have this demonstration going on. I'm sure that they have done anything that they can to help it and make sure it isn't stopped until it is huge. Hum! Maybe then a little martial law.

                    5. We have a two party system for a reason!

There are supposed to be two distinctly different parties that keep checks and balances on one-another. That way, they get very little done. Only what is good for the COUNTRY gets anywhere.

                    Who is responsible for this?

                    WE ARE!

You and I are allowing our country and our freedoms to be taken from us by False Flag operations and believing in a messiah. It is our fault that we have no one to vote for, no-one-else's.

A party of the middle is NO PARTY AT ALL.

You forget the Senators who crafted the banking deregulation bill Gramm Leach Bliley (republicans) and what was going on with Clinton at the time (Lewinsky). Not a justification or an excuse but he was pandering to them for sure!

It's not the corporations???? ARE YOU INSANE!!!!???

AND THE NEW WORLD ORDER was brought to you by Bush Sr! Thank him for NAFTA. Clinton was the idiot who signed it, but he had been sold a bag of goods by repubs that it would bring jobs here... what a freaking joke. You can blame the president who signs bills but it's drafters are just as if not more responsible!

                        AJV,

You wrote, "The Democrats brought you the Political Correct Disease that included a global economy where-in we, help other countries by sending them our jobs. How incredibly stupid and criminal is that! That's right, the Democrats brought that to the table and got it passed." Now tell us the source of this wild assertion. "We help other countries by sending them our jobs"? Who is the we to whom you refer, Kimosabe?

AJV. Government has little to do with the choices made by our "job creators," the investor class, who decided to ship those jobs oversees to maximize profits by reducing labor costs. In addition, corporate America is sitting on trillions of dollars that it refuses to invest in America at least until they've driven Obama from office. Why is that the fault of Democrats?

Tell you, what, AJV, if you want to be a slavishly obedient to corporate propaganda, don't expect more intelligent people to refuse to follow suit.
