Toon-Off: Occupy shutdown

Police in New York, Portland and other cities across the country cleared out Occupy Wall Street protesters encamped at their respected locations. In Manhattan, police cleared out Zuccotti park and arrested about 200 protesters who resisted orders to leave.

So who drew the best cartoon about the police crackdown - Jimmy Margulies of The Record, or Rick McKee of The Augusta Chronicle?

They both make a VERY serious statement, and give pause for thought . As I see it, the press, is trying to villify the tea party while martyring sainthood on to the occupys. But looking through the eyes of a vet that gave Uncle Sam a blank check which I was willing to endorse with my lifes blood as so many better men and women have done before us, I see a frustrated public on both sides of the aisle, and a very disconnected "Let them eat cake." mentality from capitol hill. I see a very large turn out for the polls this coming election year ('12) and hopefully we will someday return to the "citizen legislator". I think both sides have legitimate claims and from what I see they are both using their constitutional rights that I was willing to die for so, as long as they remain peaceful and use the power of the pen / voice, in my eyes they are breaking no laws. I wish them resolution in their struggles.

Show me a picture of an Occupy Wall Street protester waving a stick at a police officer...really, show me one. Then again, there are MANY photos of Tea Party protesters with guns, including high-powered rifles. There is no equivalence between the Tea Mob and the OWS protesters: The Tea Mob kept calling for a "Second Amendment Remedies," carrying guns to political rallies and advocating violence if their views are not adopted across the nation. It's no coincidence that Congresswoman Giffords, a democrat, narrowly defeated a Tea Mob-favored candidate, and it was her first meeting of the new congressional year. It was proven than Mark Ekstrum, a firefighter who was to respond to the mass shooting, declined to respond because of his pro-tea party beliefs and, likely, caused the deaths of some. When are we going to wake up to the fact that we have a domestic terrorist organization, sponsored by shadowy billionaires, among us and that they're carrying guns?

Bill, Please look at the cartoons again and SEE what they are trying to say, I can only say you are not a vet and have never looked down the barrel of an AK-47 with a scared "kid" holding it (an enemy soldier of about 19-20 yrs old). I see that while you are also a Liberal and I am a Conservative/Libertarian (yes I can deep fry both parties with rhetoric) I wish you would look at the big picture, change will come, but to what level decides on which side learns from history and uses their head not for antagonism but to work within the confines of the system and brings about change for the better of us all as a society and not just one small segment, that is what the occupiers are screaming the blue blazes about (wall streeters). As well does the tea partiers against the PAC's & lobbiests for major corporations. Both sides are afraid that with Congress and Corporate America forgetting it is the little man that got them where they are and having finally arrived, are walking away from their promises.
